Intellectual property thieves
September 7, 2006
Page five of the Cambodia Daily today displays a full-page editorial advertisement with a large, bold headline that reads “That is The Question.” Underneath the headline is this:
What does Radio Free Asia, Sam Rainsy, The Catholic Church in Australia, Nexis, Factiva and Malaysia’s Bernama News Agency have in common?
They are thieves of intellectual property. They do not respect the creative work of others. They scan, reproduce, publish and profit, even copyright the intellectual property of The CAMBODIA DAILY with impunity.
They preach high moral ideals, particularly Radio Free Asia, but don’t practice what they preach. Watch this space for examples of the crimes of these organizations in their flagrant disregard of respecting the belongings of others.
The first case history will be RFA. Watch for it.
This could have only been written by Bernie Krisher himself. And really, newsroom staff can’t be angry that he is trying to protect their work from unauthorized use. Still, there is a time and a place for everything. And it seems rather obvious that, regardless of timing, page five is not the place for pushing the personal agenda of the newspaper’s publisher.

As a weblogger, I wish the Cambodia Daily and Cambodge Soir had regularly updated sites; then I could link to breaking news.
The PP Post is doing a little better, but I’d prefer they delete the ‘paid’ section and had a comprehensive archive. I think they’d make more money via ad traffic.
Probably the most current online local newspaper? Koh Santepheap, complete with Google Ads.
As for the quality/content of these newspapers, well, that’s a whole different discussion.
