This amazes me since it appears to imply that mail order marriages happen. In my experience, each and every mail order bride business is nothing but fraud.

I'm a filipina, were supposed to get married with my cambodian boyfriend last month. My boyfriend came along from cambodia to marry me but every plans was broken when we found out that the government does'nt allow us to get married. It was so dissapointing. Now we decided to break the relationship since there's no assurance. We love each other, but everything change. so sad, so painful but is there anything we can do about it.

I am in the process of getting engaged / married to my Khmer girlfriend. We have spent four years living together, getting to know each other and, in the process, ironing out any differences of culture that might be a problem to us in the future. In our heads and our hearts we have been married for a considerable time already. I challenge any official from my government or my girlfriend's government to see the two of us together and not realise that we utterly love and respect one another.

I love our cultural differences. I love the fact my girlfriend has a deep faith and keeps a shrine to Buddha in our room. I love to watch her preparing food for Pchhum Benn. I love the fact she always tries to kiss me after eating prohok. These things are life.

It is the basic human right of any citizen of the world to love or marry the person of their choice. This law is ludicrous. It is taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Of course Cambodia should take care of its citizens. No-one is arguing otherwise. But please take the time to examine each case on its merits. My girlfriend does not need protecting from me. She needs protecting from an accident of birth that denied her an education; passable health care and virtually any chance of decently paid employment. It breaks my heart to think of the chances that passed her by because she was born in the right country at the wrong time.

We have our eyes open. We know the future will be difficult. But we love each other, we communicate brilliantly, and we only ask that we be given the chance to build a life together as husband and wife.

Sad state of affairs, blame everybody for evil of a few. I married a wonderful Thai lady but my govt too has draconian ideas about letting her stay in NZ permanently as yet due to fact that I was married to an american lady for 13 years who I lost after taking her home to visit family and she fell in love with someone else. I have to wait 5 yrs before I can getmy new wife residency, so until then even though we are married she can only stay for up to 9 months at a time. They should take time to look at genuine case studies and not judge all by the few.

But I hear that this ban will be ended this week. This will be good news for all who want to marry a Khmer girl/boy.
I hope it will be true !!!

I understand why the government banned this. Because we don't want foreigners to look down on our Cambodian people. Yet, banning everyone is not the soluation.

The cost really outweighs the benefits. It is a counter-produtive approach.
