Web sites banned in Cambodia
January 31, 2009
On January 30th Tharum noticed that Reahu’s site was no longer available. Internet censorship had arrived in Cambodia. This page is meant to provide a central point were the Internet community can track web sites the Cambodian government refuses to let its citizens view and provide alternative methods of reaching those pages.
1. Reahu.net
As of Jan 31, 2009, attempts to reach this page result in a page load or similar error. Proxy servers can circumvent this censorship: HideMyAss, Anonr, 250.
Same as above. HideMyAss, Anonr, 250.
3. Global Witness ‘Country For’ Sale Report
From Xinhua. So far government attempts at censoring web sites has been very scattershot. The Post reports that the Global Witness web site is only banned to AngkorNet subscribers. Similar patterns exist for the other sites on the list, which are banned by one or some but not all ISPs. (Added Feb 09, 09) UPDATE Feb 10: AngkorNet denies blocking the Global Witness web site.

This is censorship of information and restriction on the freedom of speech. If these two sites are banned, then Ki-Media and my blog, Khmerization will be next.

Let this page be fair, and remove what the gov’t actually do not bother with: Scarava and GW are plainly available, and always were.
As far as I know, only reahu.net was banned, on a formal request from the government by the ISPs of Cambodia.

As it happens, indeed Sacrava is blocked… In Thailand!
